For hundreds of years the traditional haiku form was 5-7-5 syllables. But ever since the "haiku revolution" of July, 1995, the 8-5-6 haiku form has been gaining greater momentum. The best predictions are that the 8-5-6 haiku form will surpass the 5-7-5 form by 2012, if not before then.
